Is Superhog Legitimate?

We know you might worry about paying a security deposit or damage waiver to your potential hosts through Superhog. Is Superhog safe? Is Superhog legitimate? Why do hosts need it, after all? These are natural questions that pop up before using a new tool.

Keep reading and learn more about Superhog and how it works below.

What is Superhog?

Superhog is a SaaS company that helps hosts reimburse damages in their Airbnbs and direct booking apartments. Shortly, we protect hosts against incidents during short-term stays. Our services cover the gaps in deposit collection and protection policies by Airbnb, Vrbo, and other online travel platforms (OTAs).

Hosts choose us to avoid scams like unauthorized chargebacks and secure their houses against guest damage through deposits and waivers. We also provide ID screening services to help hosts make sure only good guests enter their properties. It saves them from unsolicited parties or dozens of people living in a small apartment.

Guests use Superhog to have more pleasant and stress-free stays. They can pay for a one-time damage waiver to avoid worrying about occasional damage or pay a deposit and get their money back after checkout.

Why do we do that? Superhog creates trustful relationships between guests and hosts. Guests know they’ll get good reviews and smooth checkout even if there is some damage, and the hosts will be at peace, understanding that they’ll get reimbursed.

How does Superhog protect my personal data?

Sharing governmental ID and personal details can be a major concern for many guests.

Here at Superhog, we know how important data protection is for our hosts and the guests staying in their properties. We constantly review our policies to follow the highest industry standards for data handling. We will never sell guest information to a third party.

Read our data protection policy for further details on:

  • Data encryption & handling
  • Third-party audits
  • Access controls
  • Continuous checks

I’m a guest, why should I pay a security deposit with Superhog?

The Superhog’s benefits for hosts are clear, but you also get a lot out of it as a guest. When a host has reliable damage protection, which Superhog provides, you are less likely to have issues with short-term rentals.

Suppose you break a chair or spill a glass of wine on a couch in a rental property. If you pay a damage waiver with Superhog, you can inform the host and wait for us to reimburse the damage. The coverage is sufficient to repair everything and the claim resolution process is smooth. The host gets less stress and doesn’t bug you for accidental damage.

However, if you don’t have any protection as a guest, be ready for a lengthy resolution process, which may become even more painful if you have booked through a direct website without any guest protection.

Besides much better protection, another reason to pay a security deposit with Superhog is trust. Hosts that invest in using third-party tools for rentals care about their business. They are much less likely to fool their guests and rent our properties in poor conditions. Property owners backed by Superhog take short-term rentals seriously and want a pleasant experience for their guests. They minimize the risks of disputes, protecting guests against any inconveniences.

Is Superhog legit?

Yes, Superhog is legit. Superhog is registered with the ICO under registration number ZA518818.

We meet GDPR requirements and process collected personal information securely, regularly evaluating the impact of our activities on data privacy. Superhog asks guests for the minimum data needed to verify their identity and provide other services, including damage deposits.

Why do hosts choose to work with Superhog?

First, standard home insurance doesn’t cover damages that happen during short stays booked via platforms. Second, Airbnb and platforms alike do refund some guest damage, but their policies have many limitations. And the dispute resolution process takes too long.

These and some other listed reasons why hosts use Superhog:

  • Superhog has a broader coverage. The platform has several products protecting hosts and guests, including guest screening, damage deposits, damage waivers, and STR insurance. Online travel platforms (OTAs) have a much weaker protection.

“We use guest-screening in many of the properties and I offer guests a choice between a non-refundable damage waiver or a damage deposit. I leave it up to them.” says Saskia van der Bolt, CEO in Villa in Umbria”

“I love Superhog because it gives me peace of mind with the guest verification, GDPR compliance, and extensive coverage.” – shares a Pippa & Benoite representative.

  • Superhog supports guest screening. Quite often, the property belongs to the host, so they want to get their house protected. They screen their guests to make sure they are letting in nice travelers. The screening by Superhog is an easy way to detect suspicious guests who are likely to cause damage or commit fraud.

“What I like about guest screening is that we don’t need to build a list of bad guests ourselves, Truvi just tells us “yes” or “no” before the guests even get to our properties. It takes a lot of the pressure away from us.”  – says Cody Wood, COO of STR Accommodations.

  • Superhog protects all bookings. Some hosts manage bookings both on OTAs and direct booking websites and want to protect all of their direct bookings. With Superhog, they can be sure every booking is equally well protected and falls under the same property damage and insurance rules.
  • Superhog has reliable support. Our incident management department responds and refunds damage much quicker than OTAs. Hosts only need to report an incident, provide evidence, and get the money to repair the damage.

“For me, the biggest benefit is not having to chase after damage payments. It takes away the bureaucratic hassle, saves time and it calms down hosts who worry about damage to their properties.” shares Saskia van der Bolt, CEO in Villa in Umbria.

  • Superhog automates tasks. Property owners and managers renting multiple places use Superhog to do everything faster. It automatically collects ID details from guests and verifies them to save hosts from manual guest screening. Much faster deposit collection and dispute resolution also optimize hosts’ effort and time.
  • Superhog fights fraud. Hosts use the platform to detect bookers with suspicious behaviors right away and avoid financial losses. It’s an effective way to detect potential scams like when guests book a property, never stay there, and ask for a refund.
  • Superhog helps avoid conflicts with neighbors. Short-term rentals can be located in residential areas and blocks of apartments where locals live. Superhog services ensure the guests and neighbors co-exist peacefully, and the guests understand their responsibility for any damage.
